BOOK

I am proud that after years of work my book “VOICE MOTION” is finally out on Mel Bay! It is physically available in stores worldwide, and as an ebook directly through Mel Bay. I may offer a few copies directly via this site at some point, please check the BOOK page for updates. I am very thankful for the great feedback from readers and colleagues so far!

I am currently planning to produce a serious of videos to go along with the books in which I present some of its main ideas and concepts, play through some voice leading examples etc. I´ll release them on my personal youtube channel periodically. I am also doing some video interviews on different YT-channels that will be out in spring.

NEW ALBUM

During the pandemic, I recorded two new albums with my Trio DRIFT (feat. Matthias Pichler & Joe Smith)

The first one, “Wings” was supported by Initiative Musik and is out now on LP/CD/DL etc !
We will be playing more live shows soon with the trio to support the record, I am very much looking forward to that.
The second one, “Cycles” will be out in late Spring/early summer!

From the liner notes:
“On our previous albums we featured our own compositions exclusively. This one showcases something else we have always been doing since we started working together as a trio 10 years ago: playing standard tunes and improvising freely. The tracks named “cycle” are not so much original compositions but rather conceptual sketches in which mostly constant, three-part chord structures are taken through specific, symmetrical harmonic cycles (indicated in the respective track name). They serve as loose frameworks for spontaneous, improvisational interpretation of the material. “

DOCTORATE

In April 2022 I started an artistic/scientific research project called Moving Shapes, on motivic improvisation and melodic sequence patterns within heptatonic scales as a doctoral student (Dr. sc. mus.) at the HfMT Hamburg.
I am very thankful and honored for the continued support via the genereous scholarship by the Evangelische Studienwerk Villigst for the project and excited to continue the deep dive into the melodic possibilities of the heptatonic universe.

TEACHING

I am happy to return to teaching at the music departments of the Hochschule Osnabrück and the Hochschule Hanns Eisler after spring break!
